My name is Cindy Weitzman (maiden name Lucchino), I was born in Los Angeles, California in 1960. My father was Joseph Rocco Lucchino born in Buffalo, NY in 1937 (he passed away July 2004). My grandparents were Joseph A. Lucchino and Concetta M. Lucchino (maiden name Maiorana). My grandparents had 3 boys; Joseph, William and Robert, all of them born between 1937 and 1942. I don't know much about the family history before them. Unfortunately, no one took the time to document our family tree. I love your website and feel that there must be a family connection somewhere! Comments:: Hello, just returned from Campomaggiore. Visited with my friend, Sindaco of Campomaggiore, Mario Ungaro. He gave me a copy of all the census data for our 6 families (Lucchino, Lorenzo, Perriello, Iosco, Morena, Maggiore) along with a book on the town, and other gifts. We took a tour with him of C. Vecchio as he is an expert on the area and showed us Rocco Antonio Lucchino's home at #37 Via Poerto along with telling us how the town formed, etc., too much to tell here...we visited a Perriello cousin and exchanged email addresses. Mario advised when I make a tree for the family he will add it to a database they have there as well as register it and link to ancient docs he showed me. Remarkable journey! Fascinating history!

If anyone knows the name of my great-grandfather please let me know along with any other details you may have about him.I believe there is some connection to the Lucchinos from Leechburg, PA and their patriarch by the name of Rocco, but I don't know the exact connection. Since Italian first sons are named after their grandfather, I suspect that my father was named in the same manner and my great-grandfather's name could be Dominic Lucchino.

Hope you're having a good new year. Here's an update:

Towards the end of December, Ron and Barb Lucchino let me know they were going to Italy for 2 weeks. They were planning to spend a day in Campomaggiore, so I wrote to the guy who left the entry in our web site guest book. He took a few days to respond, but he said he would be glad to have them at his house for dinner ... in Taranto, about 2 hours away, towards the heel of the boot. (It turns out he no longer lives in Campomaggiore, but goes there to visit his mother.) He sounded very gracious, and I'd like to meet him. By the time he responded, Ron and Barb were already in Italy. I tried to contact them on their cell phone, but couldn't make the connection, so the best I could do was leave a message. They're back now, so at some point I'll ask them how it went.

I am now living in Minden, Nevada for the past 12 years, but in Nevada since 1973. My father is Edward Stephen Bumbar-Dunbar now age 74 living in nursing home in Puyallup, Wa. for the past 3 years. I have 1 son Michael C. Mains, now age 33-living in North Carolina, who has 1 daughter now age 7 living in Ohio-boy are we spread out. Comments:: Greetings from Philadelphia. Had my first chance to check out the family web site recently. John did a good job.
Question. If Mariantonia Jasco was originally a Moreno, does that mean that my grandparents Theresa & Rocco were cousins?
Also, the story that i got from grandma Theresa about how she got married to grandpa Rocco was different if i remember it correctly. She said that her parents wanted to fix her up with someone else but she had her eye on Rocco and convinced her parents that he was the one for her.
I'm currently reading a book called "Family and Community: Italian immigrants in Buffalo, 1880-1930 by Virginia Yans-McLaughlin, Cornell University Press 1971, 1977. It's pretty good. Check it out.

I am teaching an anthropology course this semester and on Monday 4/10/00 I am "performing" the section on Kinship and Descent. I enjoy this particular section because I get to show off our wonderful family using this website. I also chart my branch of the family tree using "anthropological" symbols and terms. Then I do some funky things with adoption, invitro fertilzation and surrogate mothers. Needless to say I have a lot of fun with this section. I thank John for this wonderful display and all of you for being part of such a rich heritage.
